TRANSITIONAL DRESSING: SPRING IN THE TETONS
SKIRTS TO WOOL PANTS
Words by: Milli Dawson
Oh, Spring in the Tetons...it is a time of transition. Yesterday, April 16th I was wearing a white cotton skirt, a pair of combat boots, and a lightweight crew neck. Today, I am wearing wool trousers, a cashmere sweater, and my combat boots. The transition can certainly change drastically day to day in our weird Wyoming world.
The sun peaks out, but snow continues to fall, perhaps some of us are experiencing our first sunburns of the season while others are still keeping their fireplace warm and toasty at night. I have always loved this time of year because I love change.
I think this directly relates to what we are wearing. It is time to change with the seasons and be adaptable to what the day brings. How do we do this?
Skirts, sweaters, scarves, and adaptable shoes are the staples to start seasonal transitional dressing. A skirt feels very springy but paired with a cashmere sweater it can keep you warm and cozy. One of our favorite pieces in the shop is the Pas de Calais Tucked long skirt. It is double-layered, flowy, and pairs well with a multitude of pieces that you already have in your closet. Building a wardrobe with staples that will last you through a multitude of seasons will certainly help with transitional dressing.
Here are a few fits and other inspirational products to help motivate spring dressing.

AN INDECISIVE CREATURE
What to wear when the weather can’t make a decision.
Spring weather is the most indecisive creature I know. One day it wants to show you how wonderful it can be. All sunshine and little blades of grass poking out, then BLAM decides it wants to be dreary and snowy and cover up all the lovely little flowers trying to grow. I understand; some days, I feel like a ray of sunshine and others, I feel like a grey cloud.
As fickle as Mother Nature tends to be this time of year, my wardrobe choices are probably more so. I want to wear shoes with no socks, but it might snow, so I ditch that idea. I want to wear a white tee and a skirt, but I again forgo them because the weather app says flurries start at noon. Then I get bundled, the sun comes out, and I’m sweating.
The best advice is to wear thin, lightweight layers. A lightweight cardigan over a tee or fitted button-up looks good when you take the sweater off. A skirt is great, but make sure you have warm layers on top. A pair of cute socks with those ballet flats is good, too. This is the time that a mid-weight jacket or coat is handy. I think we can put that puffy away. My go-to at the moment is an extreme cashmere pullover. I pull it on in place of a jacket. It still keeps me warm, but I can pull it off when I need, and I don’t have to lug around a jacket.
Seasonless pieces are the most versatile items in your closet. Layer accordingly and let’s hope mother nature stops throwing those curve balls.
